Birds of a Feather Flock to Bali

Australian, Asian and American tourists continue to arrive in Bali in record numbers. Australians are Bali’s most ardent admirers, followed by travellers from China and the US.

Gays, lesbians and gay families are among those drawn to the tropical paradise of Indonesia. They come for the romance, the after dark clubs, the surfing, the shopping, the wellbeing spas and cooking classes. Not to mention they come for dream adventures and volcanic vacations.

Whether its pampering and relaxation or exotic animal activities with kids, Bali has all the lures. Not the least of which is climbing up the volcano crater at sunrise and mountain biking down through terraced rice fields, and stopping for a refreshing hot springs plunge in ancient rock pools.

Quad biking anyone? Now there’s dykes on bikes! Monkeys, birds, butterflies and dragons at Bali Zoo excite the kids. Gay men have been spotted on the challenging treetop ropes course at Bali Botanical Gardens in the mountains, and lesbians on the championship golf course.

Gay travelers have discovered and rediscovered quality budget and luxury travel in Bali. Which is reflected by the range of gay-owned and gay welcoming accommodation, both in the popular tourist towns (Jimbaran, Seminyak, Kuta and Echo Beach) and inland around Ubud, plus remote beaches and in the rural parts of Bali to the west and north ex Lovina. You can find everything from character cottages called “jungalows” to over the top modern resorts for the rich and famous and the cashed up FIFOs.
